Desert Signals

By Leo Vescari

Under desert stars, every signal could betray a heart.

Libya-Egypt frontier, 1941. Samir Khalil serves with the Long-Range Desert Group as a wireless operator and codebreaker, listening through the static for enemy transmissions that might mean life or death in the open desert. When an Italian signal hints that Allied plans may have been compromised, Samir's skill with codes becomes the first warning of a danger that could destroy more than one patrol.

The raid that follows brings him face-to-face with Dr. Vittorio Amato, an Italian field surgeon who claims he wants to defect. Vittorio carries intelligence that could save Allied lives, but he is still an enemy officer in the middle of the Sahara, with loyalties that cannot be taken on trust. For Samir, every answer Vittorio gives raises another question, and every act of mercy comes with a risk.

As radio intercepts, desert patrols, wadi hideouts, and shifting military plans pull them deeper into danger, suspicion begins to change into recognition. Forced together by necessity, Samir and Vittorio must navigate coded messages, compromised operations, and the brutal uncertainty of a campaign where betrayal can travel faster than any convoy.

Across burning days and freezing nights, what grows between them is quiet, forbidden, and almost impossible to protect. In a war built on secrecy, their bond could become a weakness, a lifeline, or the one truth neither man can bear to lose.

Desert Signals is a slow-burn MM / LGBTQ+ WWII historical romance set during the North Africa Campaign, blending enemies-to-allies tension, forced proximity, wartime suspense, desert adventure, and a tender romance shaped by trust, conscience, and shared danger.
